Brazilian genius!

When I was younger, I always wished for curly hair.  Or, at least wavy.  Something that would give my hair a little pop.  I have to admit, I sometimes wish for it now, even though the days of big, teased-out hair have passed.

Now, everything is sleek.  Straight. Flat-ironed.  And, lucky me, I have to do absolutely nothing to get that look.  Other than wash and dry.

But those with curly locks have to spend, I don’t know, hours preparing their tresses for the “of-the-moment” style.  It has to be exhausting.

So where everyone with straight hair was getting perms in the 80s to look like Nicole Kidman in Days of Thunder (or something close to it), now everyone with curly hair is looking for a way to keep their hair straight for a longer amount of time.

Cue — Brazilian Blowout.  It’s this genius new service that Madison Avenue Salon & Day Spa is offering.

It is designed to flatten and smooth your hair, just like a flat-iron.  Only, the look stays for up to 12 weeks.  Weeks!

The service, offered at $195 until April 30 (a discount from the regular price of $250), takes about two hours.

I’m told the product works to “rebuild protein bonds in the cuticle layers of your hair.”  Right.  Like I understand that. But, I have seen enough Pantene commercials to know when the cuticles of your hair are out of whack, your hair is anything but smooth.

What I do understand is that this Brazilian Blowout leaves your hair looking amazing.  Really.  I hear celebs use it all the time.  I’m not sure if Kidman does, because really how would I know?

But we have seen her more recently sporting a straight look, or at least controlled waves.

Eh?  Much better look.  On top of keeping your hair straight, the Brazilian Blowout leaves an incredible shine.  And it eliminates any of that annoying frizz and fuzz.  It works on all types of hair and as a bonus, conditions it.

The only kicker is, you have to use a sulfate-free shampoo once you have the service.  But, that’s no problem.  The Pureology line offered at Madison Ave. is sulfate free.

It also cuts your blowout time by one-third.  Not bad.  That’ll give you time to toss your archaic flat iron into the trash.

Maddening muscles

I just finished watching the March Madness tournament.  Yes, I watch college basketball.

Don’t act so surprised.  I’m a well-rounded gal.  Besides, I had to keep up with my bracket.  Okay, my bracket has long since busted.  I just wanted to see who was going to win it all.

That was a mistake.  Did you watch the final?  I am so wound up!  So tense.  It was such a close game.  I think I just finally exhaled.

Duke wins it all, again, in a nail-biter.

I have a feeling that I’m going to need some help relaxing, though.  And, I don’t have a whole lot of cash since I spent a good chunk on March Madness pools.  (I had more than one bracket working, like five brackets, and none of them had Butler in the final).

So, here I am without a whole lot of cash, tense and a five-time loser in March Madness.  It’s okay, though.  Madison Avenue Salon & Day Spa is speaking my language.

They now offer two levels of massage: one with a therapist, one with a practitioner.  And with those levels come two tiers of pricing.

Now, I can head over to the spa and get a one-hour Swedish massage starting at $49.  And, I don’t have to buy a membership to get that price (like you do at some other joints).

There’s no way I won’t be able to relax with that deal.  Finally, some winning odds.
