Ohno, oh yes!
My fingernails are shot — and I’m blaming Apolo Anton Ohno.
You know, the U.S. speedskater who about gave me a heart attack the other night while watching his cool-as-a-cucumber skate for silver in Vancouver. I was already biting my nails as he casually (or at least he looked super casual and cool, but maybe that’s just his schtick) competed in the preliminaries.
And then when he was blocked out of the top three while trying to pass in the medal round, I got crazy nervous. Bite, bite, bite. (I had already gone through my Olympic snacks…so my nails were the next casualty). I didn’t really breathe until the two Korean skaters crashed and Ohno swooped in for the silver.
So relieved. My nails are not. So, I will be skating, or driving as it were, over to Madison Avenue Salon and Day Spa for a manicure this week. And, given the intensity of the Olympic Games, I may be back the following week, too.
I’m going to do the classic manicure, which is only $20-$23 depending on who I see. And what color? A blazing red, I think, for Team USA, since blue just won’t work for me.
Who knew a manicure could be quite so patriotic?
